The male gaze is an epidemic that needs to be taken control of. Hollywood and advertisements have everyone looking at the women they portray and society thinks that that is how all women should look and act, which sets high expectations for women everywhere. It especially sets high expectations for young girls who see these women in advertisements and think that because Lindsey Lohan, or some other star, looks and acts that way, that they should too in order to be successful or “beautiful”. When the physical male gaze is not achieved by some women, which it never will be considering it is all photo shopped or fake, it lowers their self-esteem, and makes us wonder why society expects this unachievable act from them. The only way to fix or decrease the male gaze is to not follow the male gaze and to not live up to the unrealistic expectations that are portrayed.  Then the norms will be changed so that females don’t have these sexual objectifications.
